Lab Assignment 4

Modeling Assignment – Lab Assignment 4

Instructor: Gershon Elber

T.A.: Haitham Fadila

Handed out: June 19th, 2023 Due date: Please make contact with the course staff.

Description

Design a model of a geometric object, such as a computer mouse, a cell-phone, a chair, a simple airplane, a car, an arbitrary tool, and so on. Certainly, you could (and should) think about your own object. Please, contact the course assistant to discuss and confirm your selection. You have plenty of time for this lab, but be sure to make your selection as soon as possible.

This optional assignment should be handled in parallel to other assignments and not after them!

Your program should make use of free-form curves and surfaces and various operations on them. GuIrit is our recommended and supported modeling environment, but you can use any modeling software you are familiar with. You should provide your model in the .gtd/.itd (Guirit/Irit) formats or .igs (IGES) format, a format supported by virtually all relevant commercial software.

If so selected, you can download the Gu/Irit from the above web site – look for “Automatic Installation on Windows” (or “Automatic Installation on a Mac” but it is less supported) and work on your own platform, or use your own design tool. Regardless of the design method, display to us will be done using the GuIrit system. You have to provide [model].gtd/itd/igs and [model].png (image) files, where [model] stands for your model name. If a different modeling environment is to be used for this lab, consult us first while you are the sole responsible for it and its use. You are to provide additional images and scene files and descriptions the same way you did in .png image format.

See examples from previous years here.

Submission

Display will be done on PCs in CGGC lab, using the GuIrit system. You are to provide [model].gtd/itd/igs and [model].png files, where [model] stands for your model name. You are encouraged to provide additional images and scene files. Please include your student names and student numbers in an additional [model].txt file. We will schedule a time to orally grade the program with you.
